At UpMix, most of what we do lives in the physical world: stages, speakers, lighting rigs, cables, cues. But every show starts the same way — with paperwork.
A light plot. A hookup sheet. A patch list. An audio rig diagram. Before a single fixture gets hung or a cable gets run, someone has to sit down and map all of it out.
For a long time, the tools available for that job were either too expensive, too complicated, or both. Professional software like Vectorworks Spotlight is genuinely powerful, but it carries a price tag that makes no sense for a small production company, a freelance LD, or a high school theater program. So most people improvise. AutoCAD borrowed from a friend. A student license that runs out. A spreadsheet standing in for a hookup sheet. A hand-drawn plot photographed on a phone and emailed to the crew.
That friction was familiar enough that we decided to do something about it.
Introducing LuminaPlot
LuminaPlot is a browser-based light plot and production design tool built for the people who actually work shows. No install, no license dongle, no four-figure subscription — it runs in the browser and has a free tier that requires no card to start.
The core workflow covers everything from fixture placement and DMX patching through to print-ready export. Draw your rig on a stage plan, assign DMX addresses, and generate an instrument schedule, hookup sheet, or magic sheet — all in one place.
What It Does
Lighting design — Place fixtures from a growing library of real manufacturer data (currently 231 fixtures across 21 manufacturers). Set DMX modes, assign universes, and let auto-patch handle address allocation. Export to instrument schedule, hookup sheet, or console patch CSV.
Audio plotting — v2.0 expanded LuminaPlot into full production territory. Design your stage audio rig with real speaker libraries from L-Acoustics, d&b audiotechnik, Meyer Sound, and RCF. Map stagebox routing, monitor sends, PA topology, and signal flow — then export it all as a rider or rig document.
Whole-venue plotting — Color-coded zone mapping, stage curtains and soft goods, venue underlays, and a paper canvas theme for a clean printed output.
Production paperwork — Gel schedules, gobo schedules, accessory schedules, PA delay and alignment notes, one-click paperwork presets. The stuff that actually has to leave your laptop and end up in the hands of the crew.
Who It’s For

The honest answer: we needed it ourselves.
UpMix Events does production work. That means pre-production documentation is a real part of the job, not a nice-to-have. The existing options were either overkill or inaccessible. So rather than keep working around the gap, we built something that fits the way production work actually happens.
